Our Activities

Operations Center

Cloud seeding operations activities are concerned with monitoring the chances of seeding cloud targets and designing missions to conduct cloud seeding operations. Cloud seeding operations are conducted inside the operations room at the headquarters of the National Center of Meteorology, which is equipped with the latest observational technologies to monitor clouds, weather conditions, and analyze weather data. The operating room is equipped with IT hardware and software to provide real-time data and forecast data to real-time weather forecasters and future forecast data. To design daily cloud seeding missions. Designing a daily cloud seeding mission begins with the weather forecast for the next 12 to 18 hours and the forecast for the next two to four days. The design of daily tasks depends on expected weather conditions and continuous monitoring of the weather condition, taking into account seasonal changes in weather patterns, cloud characteristics, and the development of precipitation.

Aviation

The decision-making procedure is communicated with the aviation sector to define the level of readiness of the cloud seeding airplanes. When the cloud seeding airplanes are launched the Center guides the airplanes to cloud seeding targets and re-adjusts the flight plans according to real time weather conditions. The four project seeding aircraft are equipped with seeding equipment, seeding agent(s), and positioning instrumentation. Real-time positioning of the aircraft is displayed, superimposed on the operations center radar during flight operations.

Our Activities

Research and Development

The intent of the flight operations (seeding) is to increase precipitation. The assessment of these efforts is a component of the project research and separates from the operational program. Daily flight and seeding reports will be posted electronically to a project site accessible to NCM administrators and scientists, program researchers, and data managers. All flight and seeding data will be collected, reviewed for quality, and archived. This is available for evaluation and research purposes, and to partner NCM scientists. Weekly flight summaries are prepared and posted electronically. The daily cloud seeding mission design starts with the weather forecast for the next 12 – 18 hours and the outlook for the next 2 to 4 days ahead. The design of the daily missions is based on the expected weather conditions and the continuance monitoring of the weather taking into account seasonal variations in weather patterns, cloud characteristics, and precipitation evolution.

Our Activities

Seeding Technologies

Enable the Program activities through providing and managing techniques required to operate the cloud seeding systems, communications, and supporting telecommunications network, as well as data management systems related to the cloud seeding for scientific research purposes. Cloud Seeding Techniques Department supports, operates, maintains, manages and develops the Program’s technical assets of devices.
